2023: Busy Year for Delhi Courts as High-Profile Cases Continue

Supreme Today News Desk

Despite dealing with numerous high-profile cases, Delhi's district judiciary was very active in 2023. Key cases included the sexual harassment complaint against former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the alleged excise policy scam involving Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) bigwigs, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) case against the news portal NewsClick, and the Parliament security breach. The special court denied bail to former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and AAP leader Sanjay Singh in the alleged corruption and money laundering cases related to the excise policy scam. Additionally, the court heard arguments in the sexual harassment complaint filed by a minor wrestler against WFI chief Singh, and another case involving former Haryana Minister Gopal Goyal Kanda in the abetment to suicide of former air hostess Geetika Sharma. The year also saw progress in the trial of Aaftab Amin Poonawala for the murder of his live-in partner Shraddha Walker and the framing of charges against the seven accused in a hit-and-run case where a 20-year-old woman was dragged to death.
