Subject : High Court - Public Interest Litigation (PIL)
Amaravati: The High Court of Andhra Pradesh has initiated proceedings in a new Public Interest Litigation (PIL), issuing a notice to the State of Andhra Pradesh and seeking its formal response. The case, filed by petitioner Balabadruni Naga Satwik, has been scheduled for its next hearing on November 5, 2025.
The matter, registered as WP(PIL) NO: 171 of 2025, came up for hearing before a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur and Justice Ravi Cheemalapati .
After considering the initial submissions, the Bench issued a formal notice to the respondents. Smt S. Pranathi, the learned Special Government Pleader, appeared on behalf of the state government (respondent Nos. 1 to 3) and accepted the notice.
The court has directed the state to file its response, which will outline the government's official stance on the issues raised in the petition.
The issuance of a notice marks the first significant step in a PIL, where the court acknowledges that the petition raises issues worthy of judicial consideration. The state government is now legally obligated to present its arguments and relevant facts in a counter-affidavit. The future course of the litigation will depend on the contents of the state's response and the subsequent arguments presented by both parties. The specific subject matter of the PIL was not detailed in the initial order.
