Delhi Court Takes Cognizance Of ED's Chargesheet Against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal , AAP In Liquor Policy Case

Court Issues Production Warrant for Kejriwal , Takes Cognizance of ED's Supplementary Chargesheets

A Delhi Court on Tuesday took cognizance of the supplementary chargesheet filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Aam Aadmi Party in the alleged liquor policy scam.

Chargesheet Details

Special judge Kaveri Baweja of Rouse Avenue Courts took cognizance of the seventh supplementary prosecution complaint filed against the Chief Minister and AAP in the money laundering case. The court has issued a production warrant for Kejriwal for July 12.

The court also took cognizance of ED's eighth supplementary chargesheet against accused Vinod Chauhan and Ashish Mathur.

Kejriwal 's Arrest and Custody

Kejriwal is currently in judicial custody in the corruption and money laundering cases related to the alleged scam. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) examined Kejriwal in Tihar jail and recorded his statement, shortly after the Delhi High Court stayed the bail granted to him in the PMLA case.

After court's permission, CBI examined Kejriwal in court on June 26 and then formally arrested him in the case. Kejriwal was earlier arrested by the ED on March 21 and had been granted interim bail by the Supreme Court till June 1 in view of the general elections.

Kejriwal 's Legal Challenges

Kejriwal has challenged his arrest by CBI and the three days of police custody remand before the Delhi High Court. He has also filed a plea seeking bail in the corruption case. Both the cases are fixed for hearing on July 17.

AAP's Reaction

Reacting to the ED's supplementary chargesheet, AAP national secretary Pankaj Gupta alleged that the BJP-led union government is hatching a "big conspiracy" against the Aam Aadmi Party. He accused the BJP of wanting to "finish off AAP", which governs Punjab and Delhi, at any cost.

The AAP leader also claimed that the ED has failed to recover any "corruption money" in the case.

Conclusion

The Delhi court's decision to take cognizance of the ED's chargesheets against Kejriwal and AAP marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the alleged liquor policy scam. The case has become a major political flashpoint, with the AAP accusing the BJP-led central government of targeting the party and its leaders.
