Declaration for Acquisition of Land for Ajmer – Chanderiya Doubling Railway Project
The Indian Central Government has officially declared the acquisition of specific land parcels in Bhilwara district, Rajasthan, for the execution and operation of the critical infrastructure project: the doubling of the Ajmer–Chanderiya rail section (178.28 km), aimed at enhancing rail capacity and efficiency in the North Western Railway zone.
Key Points
- The Central Government has finalized land acquisition under Section 20E(1) of the Railways (Amendment) Act, 2008, following due process and review of public objections.
- A total of approximately 6.11 hectares of land across villages Bera and Lambiyakalan (Tehsil Banera, District Bhilwara) will be acquired, including both government-owned and privately held plots.
- The acquired land will vest absolutely in the Central Government free from all encumbrances upon publication in the Gazette, enabling immediate use for the "Special Railway Project" — Ajmer–Chanderiya Doubling Project.
- Affected private landowners include individuals from communities such as Brahmins, Khatiks, Gujars, Bhils, and joint families, with compensation and ownership details recorded, some specifying ICICI Bank, Subhash Nagar, Bhilwara as payment point.
- Earlier notification (S.O. 4690(E), 16 October 2025) initiated the process, with public notice published in Rajasthan Patrika and Dainik Bhaskar on 31 October 2025; all objections were examined and disposed of by the competent authority.
- The project falls under the North Western Railway’s Ajmer Division and is part of broader network modernization and capacity expansion efforts by Indian Railways.
Land Finalized for Ajmer–Chanderiya Rail Expansion
The Gazette notification marks the conclusive legal step in acquiring essential land for the 178.28 km doubling project between Ajmer and Chanderiya, a strategic upgrade to decongest one of Rajasthan’s key rail corridors. With private and public lands now vesting absolutely with the Central Government, the project moves into active implementation, signaling the government’s commitment to expanding rail infrastructure in western India. The resolution of land surveys and objections reflects procedural adherence, while the inclusion of diverse landowners underscores the localized social impact. This development paves the way for improved freight and passenger operations under India’s national rail modernization agenda.
