ORDER :

1. Heard counsel for the parties.

2. In view of the judgment of this Court in West Bengal Electricity Board & Ors. v. Desh Bandhu Ghosh & Ors., 1985 (3) SCC 116 and Central Inland Water Transport Corporation Ltd. & Anr. v Brojo Nath Ganguly and Another, Civil Appeal No. 4412 of 1985 this Writ Petition is allowed and it is declared that Regulation 20 of United Bank of India (Officers) Regulation, 1979 is unconstitutional and void. The four officers whose services were terminated in pursuance of Regulation 20 of United Bank of India (Officers) Regulation, 1979 and who have filed Writ Petitions in the High Court will be reinstated forthwith and they will be entitled to arrears of salary. The management may take such disciplinary action as they are entitled to take in accordance with the law. The Writ Petition is disposed of accordingly.

3. The Transfer Petitions have become infructuous and are, therefore, dismissed.
