1. The petitioner has prayed for issuance of a writ in the nature of certiorari for quashing the orders dated March 22, 2000 (Annexure-P-4) and October 16, 2000 (Annexure-P-5) passed by respondent No. 1-the Joint Registrar, Co-operative Societies, Patiala.

The petitioner has averred that he was elected as a member of the Managing Committee of respondent No. 4, i.e., the Mohali Kalan Co-operative Agricultural Service Society Ltd., Village Mohali Kalan, Tehsil Malerkotla, District Sangrur. The Society is represented through its Secretary (herein-after referred to as the Society). This election was held on December 10, 1999. Respondent No. 3-Charanjit Singh challenged the election under Sections 55 and 56 of the Punjab Co-operative Societies Act, 1961 (hereinafter referred to as the Act). Copy of the election petition dated December 17, 1999 has been annexed with the writ petition as Annexure-P-1.

3. Respondent No. 1-the Joint Registrar, Co-operative Societies, Patiala, while hearing the election petition, restrained the present petitioner from functioning as a member of the Managing Committee vide order dated March 22, 2000 (Annexure-P-4). Subsequently, this order was conf
