The petitioner has filed the present writ petition seeking a direction to the respondents to accord permission to opt for UGC, 1996 pay scale to the post of Lecturer in Education with effect from 09.05.2000. The petitioner was appointed on 09.05.2000 for a post of Lecturer. The petitioner submitted an application for extension of UGC pay scale which was rejected by the 1^st respondent. The respondents have in their order of rejection stated that the petitioner ought to have made a representation by exercising his option for extension of UGC pay scale, 1996 within three months from the date of orders.
