Though the present PIL was directed to be listed on 20/01/2026, but a news report has been published today i.e. 26/11/2025 in The Times of India with a heading that “Child tied to rope, hung from tree over homework” , the same has been taken up for hearing today. In the said news report, it has been reported that a horrific case of corporal punishment emerged from Chhattisgarh's Surajpur on Monday, after a four-year-old LKG student was tied to a rope and hung from a tree. The incident was reported from Narayanpur village, when two female teachers of a private school punished the child for allegedly not completing hishomework. The incident came to light after a video went viral on social media, triggering outrage and forcing the Education department to launch an urgent inquiry. The teachers, identified as Kajal Sahu and Anuradha Dewangan, were purportedly seen in the viral video tying a rope to the child's shirt, and hanging him from a tree inside the school premises. A young man standing on a nearby roof top recorded the entire incident on his phone and later uploaded it online-following which the department was informed. It has also been reported that the teachers trying to stop the youth from filming the incident, instead of sparing the child. Angered by the brutal punishment meted out to the child, locals circulated the video widely, demanding immediate and strict action.

Sankul-in-charge was sent to the school for an on- spot inspection. The investigating officer admitted that the teachers' actions were 'completely wrong', saying a detailed report had been submitted to Senior District Officials who will decide the next course of action.

When the aforesaid issue was confronted with the District Eduction Officer he stated that notice has been issued to the school management seeking a reply within two days. Based on the findings, the education department will take action. It is also apparent from the news report that although the child was reported to be safe, the parents raised questions over the incident.

Shri Y.S. Thakur, learned Additional Advocate General submits that action has been taken against the concerned teachers by the authority concerned.

In view of above, the Secretary, Department of School Education, Government of Chhattisgarh is directed to file his personal affidavit by the next date of hearing regarding the aforesaid issue.
