Facts of the case:
The appellant sought information regarding encroachment removal and sanitation services via an RTI application. Despite filing subsequent appeals, the public authority failed to provide satisfactory responses. The Commission issued directions for a reply and compensation, which were not complied with properly. During subsequent hearings, conflicting information was provided by officials regarding the identity of the PIO responsible at the relevant time.
Findings of Court:
The Commission observed an evasive attitude by the respondent and confirmed that mandatory statutory obligations were ignored. The Commission directed the payment of Rs. 1,000/- as compensation and issued fresh show-cause notices for penalty against the concerned PIOs. An inquiry into the misleading submissions made by the official during the hearing was ordered.
