1. The present writ petition has been filed on behalf of the petitioner,

seeking directions against the respondent-Election Commission of India

(“ECI”), in relation to the approval of name and registration of petitioner‟s

political party under Section 29A of the Representation of People Act, 1951

(“People‟s Act”).

2. Learned counsel appearing for the petitioner submits that the

petitioner had initially submitted an application on 14^th February, 2025 for

registration of a political party in the name of „Tamilaga Needhi Katchi‟.

statutory requirements.

3. It is submitted that thereafter, on 13^th October, 2025, the respondent

issued a notice seeking clarifications on the shortcoming in the application.

Subsequently, the petitioner duly furnished a reply on 12^th November, 2025,

clarifying all the issues raised by the ECI.

4. Since the petitioner‟s party intends to contest elections for the

forthcoming Tamil Nadu State Legislative Assembly Elections, 2026, the

present writ petition has been filed, on account of the urgency thereof.

5. Issue notice. Notice is accepted by learned counsel appearing for the

respondent.

6. Learned counsel appearing for the respondent has handed over to this

Court a letter dated 18^th December, 2025 that has been issued by the

respondent to the petitioner, which is reproduced as under:

7. By referring to the aforesaid letter, learned counsel appearing for the

respondent submits that the Election Photo Identity Cards (“EPICs”), as

submitted by some of the founding members are not readable, on account of

which, the said letter has been issued, so that proper readable EPICs are

submitted before the ECI.

8. Learned counsel appearing for the respondent-ECI further submits

that after the submission of all the requisite documents before the ECI, a

verification process shall be carried out by the ECI. Thereafter, the petitioner

would publish a notification in the newspapers for which objections shall be

called. She, thus, submits that the process with respect to registration of the

petitioner as a political party would take some time.

9. In response, learned counsel appearing for the petitioner expresses

urgency in the matter and submits that the whole process ought to be

expedited.

10. Having heard learned counsels for the parties, it is directed that the

present writ petition shall be treated as a representation by the respondent-

ECI.

11. For this purpose, hearing shall be granted to the authorized

representatives of the petitioner on Wednesday, i.e., 24^th December, 2025, at

11.00 A.M.

12. The petitioner shall be duly intimated with regard to specific

members, whose EPICs are required to be submitted. The petitioner shall

duly comply with the directions of the ECI and accordingly, submit the

requisite documents.
