The Chief Justice of a High Court, acting on a resolution of the Full Court, may designate advocates as Senior Advocates pursuant to Section 16(2) of the Advocates Act, 1961.

Headnote:The matter pertains to the conferment of the designation of Senior Advocate under the Advocates' Act, 1961. Following a resolution passed by the Full Court on 09.07.2026, the Chief Justice designated eighty-five advocates as Senior Advocates. The issue involves the administrative exercise of designating advocates based on the statutory provisions of the Advocates' Act. The court followed the internal resolution of the Full Court to grant the designation. The eighty-five advocates listed in Annexure-A are designated as Senior Advocates.

Pursuant to the Resolution passed by Hon'ble the Full Court in its meeting held on 09.07.2026, Hon'ble the Chief Justice has been pleased to designate Eighty Five (85) Advocates (mentioned in attached Annexure-A) as "Senior Advocate" u/s 16 (2) of the Advocates' Act, 1961.
