The court required a comprehensive affidavit from the State respondents addressing legal issues in a batch of writ petitions, with a subsequent hearing scheduled.

ORDER

Heard Mr. H.R.A. Choudhury, learned Senior Counsel and all the learned counsel for the petitioners in this batch of writ petitions. Also heard Mr. K. Konwar, learned Additional Advocate General, Assam for the State respondents and Mr. R. Dubey, learned Standing Counsel, Assam State Election Commission.

Mr. Konwar, learned Additional Advocate General, Assam has submitted that a comprehensive affidavit on behalf of the State respondents traversing all the legal issues involved in this batch of writ petitions will be filed on or before 18.02.2025, sans the individual grievances raised in each of the writ petitions.

Mr. Choudhury, learned Senior Counsel appearing for the petitioners has submitted that in such a case, the writ petitions can be listed on 19.02.2025, as agreed to by Mr. Konwar, learned Additional Advocate General, Assam. Mr. Choudhury, learned Senior Counsel has further submitted that in case of any necessity and as far as possible, the petitioners’ sides would file reply affidavits within 2 [two] days from 18.02.2025.

It is submitted by the learned counsel for the parties, this batch of writ petitions does not involve any issue of reservation of constituencies for SC/ST/Women.
