Heard Mr. T.J. Mahanta, learned senior counsel appearing for the writ petitioners. I have also heard Ms. M. Bhattacharjee, learned Government Advocate, Assam, appearing for the official respondents.
The petitioners herein claim to be permanent residents of village No. 1 Sensua under Dhekial Mouza in the district of Golaghat, Assam and are land less persons who have been in occupation of their respective plots of Government land since past 30-40 years by paying Touzi Bahir revenue. The petitioners claim to have constructed permanent dwelling houses over the land where they are living with their families. The case of the petitioners is that their possession of the land is on the basis of permission obtained from the Revenue Authorities and subject to fulfillment of terms and conditions laid down by the authorities on that behalf. Aggrieved by the impugned undated eviction notices (Annexure-6 series) purportedly issued under Section 18(3) of the Assam Land and Revenue Regulations, 1886, the present writ petition has been filed espousing a common cause, inter-alia, contending that the eviction notices do not disclose
