The issue involved in this writ petition is as to whether a candidate after converting his religion to Christianity can be recommended to the post of Assistant Professor reserved for Other Backward Classes/More Other Backward Classes or not?

The Principal of Janata College, Kabuganj in the district of Cachar on 25-09-2012 issued an advisement that was published in leading newspapers inviting applications for the post of Assistant Professor in Manipuri Department of the College reserved for OBC/MOBC having UGC Norms with NET/SLET/SET with some other specifications.

After his overage of seven years was condoned by the State Government in the Higher Education Department, the petitioner who fulfills the requisite eligibility criteria applied for the aforesaid post as advertised on 25-09-2012.
