We have heard Mr. K. N. Choudhury, learned senior Advocate for the appellants and Mr. B. Gogoi, learned Advocate for the respondents/State.

There is a longstanding grievance of the Ayurvedic doctors employed under the National Health Mission (NHM), Assam, who seek parity with their Allopathic (MBBS) counterparts.

The response of the State is that the appellants, who are Ayurvedic doctors, have already been put in the same pay slab as the MBBS doctors, making their pay Rs. 50,000/- per month, which is the pay given to the MBBS doctors at the entry level.

However, Mr. Choudhury, learned senior Advocate has pointed out that the benefits of increment are stopped to the appellants from the stage when their pay slab exceeds Rs. 50,000/-, while the MBBS doctors are getting increments without such fetter and many of them are getting Rs. 90,000/- or above.

Mr. Gogoi, learned Advocate for the State seeks some time to take clear instructions in the matter.
