IN THE HIGH COURT OF KARNATAKA AT BENGALURU
Ashok S. Kinagi, J
MS. SUPREETI HEGDE – Appellant
Versus
THE STATE OF KARNATAKA – Respondent
WRIT PETITION NO. 39405 OF 2025 (EDN-RES)

Advocates:
For the Appellants/Petitioners: Shridhar Hegde
For the Respondents: Manjunath, Farah Fathima, Aditya Bhat

In universities where a double evaluation system is implemented as per academic policy, the provision for re-evaluation under the Dental Council of India (DCI) BDS Course Regulations, 2007, is not applicable.

Headnote:The petitioner, a BDS student, challenged the results of the 1st year theory examinations in Anatomy and Physio-Biochem, alleging unfair valuation based on self-assessment and AI tools. The petitioner sought a writ of mandamus for revaluation or evaluation by a third-party professor, citing the Dental Council of India (DCI) BDS Course Regulations, 2007. The court found that the respondent university follows a double evaluation system as per its Ordinance dated 05.09.2022. The primary issue was whether the petitioner is entitled to revaluation under DCI Regulations despite the university's double evaluation policy. The court reasoned that the procedure for evaluating answer scripts is a matter of academic policy and that the DCI BDS Course Regulations, 2007, specifically state that re-evaluation is not applicable in universities where a double evaluation provision exists. The Writ Petition is dismissed
