Courts will generally not grant extensions for document submission in time-bound admission processes if the delay is not sufficiently justified and such relief would disrupt the overall counseling schedule and delay the admission process for all candidates.

ORAL ORDER

1. The sole prayer being pressed is a direction to the respondent No.1 - Karnataka Examinations Authority, KEA, to grant the petitioner an extension of three working days for submission of original documents for the purpose of participation in the 4th Round (Stray Vacancy Round) of Post Graduate Medical Counselling, 2025. The learned counsel for the petitioner states that the petitioner is based in Rajasthan and he could not come to Bengaluru due to the Holi holidays.

It is informed by Sri.N.K.Ramesh, learned counsel appearing for the KEA, whose submission is supported by the learned Additional Government Advocate, that the verification of documents was done on 02.03.2026 and 03.03.2026 as per the notification of the KEA dated 27.02.2026 which was duly uploaded on its website. The publication of provisional results for seat allotment is required to be done tomorrow that is on 06.03.2026 and the publication of the final results of seat allotment is to be done day after tomorrow that is on 07.03.2026. It is stated by the learned counsel for the KEA that the vakalathnama was signed by the petitioner on 03.03.2026 and the affidavit to the writ petition was sworn on 04.03.2026. The petitioner could have easily come to the KEA on 03.03.2026 to submit his papers for verification of the original documents, but, he chose to file the petition on 04.03.2026 which has come up for consideration today.

3. It is also his contention that in every State across the Country, the P.G.Medical admissions are already over and the classes have started. If this petition is allowed, then it will entail a fresh round of counselling, which will delay the process even further.

4. The learned Additional Government Advocate has produced a judgment of this Court dated 25.02.2026 by means of which, we had directed the entire process of counselling to be conducted in a time-bound manner.

5. The notification issued on 27.02.2026 mentions the schedule for seat allotment, payment of fees and reporting to college for admission etc. In the facts and circumstances, granting relief to the petitioner at this stage would again open up the process of counseling and delay the conclusion of the admission process being conducted by the KEA.

6. For the reason aforesaid, we decline to interfere in this writ petition, which is therefore, dismissed
