State Of Karnataka – Respondent
WRIT PETITION NO. 16298 OF 2026
For the Appellants/Petitioners: V Ravi Prakash
For the Respondents: G. Ramesh G Naik
A Writ of Mandamus can be issued to direct public authorities to consider and dispose of pending representations in accordance with law within a reasonable timeframe.
Headnote:The petitioner, a temple employee, sought a writ of mandamus to compel authorities to consider a representation regarding the fixation of pay scales as per government notifications. The court observed that the grievance remained unaddressed and directed respondent No.2 to decide upon the representation within a fixed timeline. The core issue was whether the respondent authorities were obligated to consider the petitioner's representation concerning pay scale parity. The court applied the principles governing the issuance of writs of mandamus directing administrative bodies to perform their statutory or public duties, determining that a timely consideration of the representation was just and proper. The writ petition was disposed of with a direction to the concerned respondent to consider the representation in accordance with law within one month.
