JUDGMENT

The petitioner is concerned with the name shown in the certificate. Admittedly the petitioner was named Lakshmi. The birth certificate also shows that name. Even before the school authorities the petitioner's name was indicated as Lakshmi. However after plus two for online applications it was found that a surname is necessary. Hence the petitioner added the father's name along with her name, i.e., Lakshmi Pratap.

2. The petitioner had to correct her name in the CBSE certificate as also the birth certificate. She published the change of name in the Gazette as evidenced from Ext.P3 and approached the CBSE. The CBSE however directed the petitioner to first get the name corrected in the Register of Births and Deaths. When the petitioner approached the Corporation with an application she was informed that the correction if at all made can only be with an 'alias'. Hence the petitioner did not file the application and approached this Court with the above writ petition.
