These Petitions relate to the unprecedented rainfall that occurred in the State of Kerala in August 2018, which resulted in extensive loss of life, property, damage of crores of rupees, large-scale displacement of people, and widespread destruction of buildings and other infrastructure. As many as forty writ petitions came to be filed. The petitions were grouped into two batches. The first batch related to petitions claiming compensation, rehabilitation, etc. The second batch of petitions, the present ones filed in public interest, are on the larger issue regarding flood control and management of dams.
