On 17 February 2024, a tragic road accident took place at Chorode in Kozhikode District, when a 9-year-old girl who was travelling by road on the National Highway along with her grandmother was hit by a car being driven in a rash and negligent manner. The grandmother succumbed to the injuries, and the minor child sustained severe traumatic brain injury. She was immediately taken to the hospital, where she was admitted to the Neurosurgery Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and placed on mechanical ventilator support. The girl child underwent neurosurgery for a head injury and was in a coma thereafter. At the request of the learned Judge of the Court, this petition was taken up suo motu.
