Dated this the 20th day of February, 2026 The petitioners, who are students of Fatima Mata National College, Kollam, affiliated to the University of Kerala, have filed this writ petition challenging the conduct of the College Union Election for the Academic Year 2025- 2026, which was notified as per University Notification dated 17.09.2025. The petitioners raised serious challenges against the voters' list and notification, raising various legal grounds.
2. When this matter came up hearing today, it is submitted by the Standing Counsel for the University that the Registrar has received certain complaints regarding eligibility of certain students to caste vote in the election due to their attendance status.
3. The academic year is coming to an end on
31.03.2026. In the circumstances, it is necessary that the College Union Elections are conducted expeditiously.
In the facts of the case, the writ petition is disposed of directing the Registrar of the University to take appropriate decision on the complaints so far received by him and take expeditious steps to conduct the election following due process of law expeditiously.
