Court upheld the respondents' actions to enhance water supply addressing the petitioner’s grievances, asserting that adequate measures were in place.

JUDGMENT

The petitioner sought for the following reliefs:

“(I) Issue a Writ of Mandamus or such other appropriate Writ, Order or Direction, directing the respondents to make a permanent solution to supply sufficient drinking water to the house of the petitioner within such time fixed by this Hon’ble Court.

(II) To dispense with the English translation of documents produced in vernacular language (III) Issue such other Writ, appropriate Order or Direction as this Hon’ble Court deem fit to the facts and circumstances of the case.”

2. The grievance of the petitioner raised in this writ petition is with respect to lack of sufficient water supply to the house of the petitioner.

3. A statement has been filed on behalf of the respondents pointing out that, at present, there are no issues but in order to increase the water supply to the Nettoor area, Water Authority has already provided additional tapping of existing line and even provided three additional air vents and line boosting meetings. It is further mentioned in the statement as follows:

“6. Therefore, an additional tapping from 300 AC pipeline at Nettoor SN Junction to the existing 160mm PVC pipe by using 140mm PVC pipe has been introduced to tackle the current crisis affected in this area. By this work, the supply level has enhanced to a higher extent. Petitioner is not facing any issues presently.

7. As a permanent solution, it is proposed to lay a 160mm HDPE pipeline through the backwaters to supply water to Nettoor area with the financial aid of Maradu Municipality. Maradu Municipality has promised to fund this work, vide their Letter No: E4- 3146704-2025, dated 05.02.2026. On completion of this proposed work, the water scarcity affected in the petitioner’s residential area can be solved. It is submitted that at present, the petitioner is getting potable water as per his requirement.”

4. It is evident from the above statement that respondents are initiating appropriate steps to redress the grievance of the petitioner and other locals. In the light of the above statement, the grievance of the petitioner stands redressed.

Accordingly, this writ petition is closed.
