IN THE HIGH COURT OF KERALA AT ERNAKULAM
C.S. Dias, J
Jomon Chakko – Appellant
Versus
State Of Kerala – Respondent
CRL.MC NO. 1519 OF 2026

Advocates:
For the Appellants/Petitioners: Abdul Raoof Pallipath, Prajit Ratnakaran, Anju Dony
For the Respondents: C.S. Hrithwik

The High Court exercises its inherent powers to direct the expeditious disposal of long-pending criminal matters by setting a time-bound trial schedule to ensure procedural efficiency and adherence to the principles of fair trial.

Headnote:The proceedings concern a criminal miscellaneous petition seeking an expedited disposal of two pending cases before the Judicial First Class Magistrate-II, Kanjirappally. The court examined the current status of the proceedings as reported by the trial court, noting that one case was posted for the framing of charges while the other awaited further inquiry. The main issue for determination was whether the court should exercise its inherent jurisdiction to set a time-bound schedule for the trial court to conclude proceedings. The court observed that it is necessary to facilitate the timely disposition of criminal matters to ensure justice is administered without undue delay. The court disposed of the miscellaneous criminal petition by directing the trial court to dispose of the specified cases in accordance with law within a period of twelve months.
