A writ petition seeking the registration of FIRs and transfer of investigation to a specialized agency is rendered infructuous and closed when the state authorities fulfill these requirements during the pendency of the proceedings.

JUDGMENT

1. The petitioners, who are said to have been cheated by an institute arraigned as the 6^th respondent herein by offering overseas employment opportunities and collecting amounts from them, have approached this Court under Article 226 of the Constitution of India, complaining of the shoddy investigation being conducted by the police in the complaints preferred by them against the financial fraud perpetrated by the above institute and its representatives.

2. The first prayer in this writ petition relates to a direction to the police authorities to register FIR on the basis of the complaints preferred by the petitioners, and the second prayer is to hand over the investigation to the State Crime Branch.

3. When the matter is taken up for consideration today, the learned Public Prosecutor, upon instructions, submitted that altogether four crimes have been registered against respondents 6 to 8, and that the investigation in the aforesaid crimes are now being handed over to the Crime Branch as per order dated 14.07.2026 of the District Police Chief, Thrissur city.

4. In the light of the above submission of the learned Public Prosecutor, it has to be taken that the purpose for which this writ petition is filed, has been fulfilled.

In the result, the writ petition stands closed, recording the aforesaid submission of the learned Public Prosecutor about the registration of crimes, and the handing over of the investigation to the Crime Branch, in connection with the complaints preferred by the petitioners.
