ORDER
This Writ Petition has been filed for the following reliefs:-
“Directing the 1st and 2nd respondent to consider petitioner’s representation dated 09.07.2025 and make correction in the Birth Certificate of Petitioner’s daughter M.Andriasusan bearing registration No.TVT/ 34/ 2010/ 001/ 0 dated 16.09.2017 issued by the 1st respondent by changing the Mothers name from Christina to Vetriselvi and a consequential direction to the respondents herein to amend petitioner’s name as above in petitioner’s daughter’s Birth Certificate within the time frame stipulated by this court.”
2. The petitioner’s case is that her original name is Vetriselvi, which is evidenced by her Aadhaar Card, Ration Card and Community Certificate. However, inadvertently, in her daughter’s Birth Certificate, her name was mentioned as Christina instead of Vetriselvi.
3. On 09.07.2025, as per the instructions of the school authorities where the petitioner’s daughter is studying, the petitioner had made a representation to the 1st respondent seeking rectification of her name in her daughter’s Birth Certificate. On 18.07.2025, the 1st respondent had rejected the petitioner’s representation without assigning any proper reason. Thereafter, on 11.11.2025, the petitioner had made a representation to Vandana Hospital, Thiruvottriyur, where she had delivered her daughter, seeking rectification of her name in her daughter’s Birth Certificate. However, the officials of the Hospital directed the petitioner to approach the respondents for such rectification. Hence, the petitioner is before this Court seeking a writ of mandamus directing the respondents to consider her representation dated 09.07.2025 and to rectify her name in her daughter’s Birth Certificate.
4. Heard the learned counsel on either side and perused the records.
5. Considering the limited request of the petitioner and taking note of the fact that the respondents are duty-bound to correct clerical or factual errors in public documents, the respondents are directed to consider and dispose of the petitioner’s representation dated 09.07.2025 seeking correction of her name in her daughter’s Birth Certificate, on merits and in accordance with law, within a period of 4 weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.
6. Accordingly, the Writ Petition stands allowed. No costs.
