The jurisdiction of the High Court under Article 226 does not extend to adjudicating ownership disputes relating to immovable property, which must be resolved in civil courts.

Headnote:The present writ petition seeks a directive for the revenue authorities to act on the petitioner's representation regarding eviction of encroachments on specified lands. The court finds that the respondents have encroached upon public property, indicated in a status report. However, the case involves ownership disputes which are not adjudicable in writ proceedings, and therefore, enforcement actions regarding the evictions are to be undertaken by the authorities based on established legal procedures. The court directs the authorities to uphold public rights while leaving ownership claims open for determination in civil court proceedings. Accordingly, the Writ Petition is disposed of.
