ORDER
The present Writ Petition has been filed seeking a direction to the 2nd respondent to grant promotion to the post of Office superintendent with consequential benefits by considering the petitioner representation dated
21.01.2026 within a time frame to be fixed by this Hon’ble court.
2. Since no adverse order is being passed against the respondents, notice to the respondents is dispensed with.
3. The petitioner was appointed as Assistant Superintendent in Traffic Department at Chennai Port Authority and thereafter promoted as Junior Assistant and he presently working as Assistant Superintendent. It is his case that despite his eligibility and seniority, he was not considered for promotion to the post of Office Superintendent under scheduled caste category. Hence, the petitioner submitted a representation dated 21.01.2026 to the respondents to consider him for promotion to the post of Office Superintendent. As no orders have been passed on the same. The petitioner has come up with the present Writ Petition.
4. Learned counsel appearing for the petitioner submitted that, it would suffice, if this Court issues a direction to the respondents to consider the petitioner’s representation dated 21.01.2026 and pass appropriate orders on the same within the time that may be stipulated by this Court.
5. On the above contention, this Court heard the learned Special Government Pleader appearing for the respondents.
6. In view of the limited relief sought for in this Writ Petition, this Court without expressing any opinion on the merits of the case, directs the respondents to consider the petitioner’s representation dated 21.01.2026 on its own merits and in accordance with law and pass appropriate orders within a period of six (6) weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order, after affording an opportunity of hearing to the petitioner and any other interested parties.
7. This Writ Petition stands disposed of with the aforesaid direction. There shall be no order as to costs.
