Public Interest Litigations must demonstrate merit, not serve publicity; the responsibility for last rites lies with the deceased's family.

Headnote:The Writ Petition under Article 226 of the Constitution seeks a direction for the arrest of police personnel under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, following the alleged custodial death of Aakash. The Court dismissed the petition, emphasizing the lack of merit and clarifying the responsibility for conducting last rites lies with the family, not the State. The petition was characterized as publicity interest litigation and deemed devoid of merit.
