Headnote:The petitioner filed a writ petition under Article 226 of the Constitution seeking a mandamus to appoint Presiding Officers and Members in District Consumer Dispute Redressal Forums pursuant to a representation dated 18.01.2021, in accordance with the Consumer Protection Rules, 2020. The court noted that appointments have been made vide G.O(Ms)No.33, Co-operation, Food and Consumer Protection (H1) Department, dated 18.03.2022. The court found the prayer no longer subsists. No specific issues were framed as the matter became moot. The ratio is that subsequent government action rendering the relief sought unnecessary leads to dismissal on grounds of infructuosity. The writ petition was dismissed as infructuous with no costs.
