Headnote:Article 226 of the Constitution of India permits issuance of writ of mandamus for police protection to conduct traditional festival events. Petitioner sought police protection for Vada Madu Manju virattu during Sri Muthumariyamman Temple festival at Oonamkudi Village on 31.03.2026, following representation dated 13.03.2026. Court found request rejected by returning officer on 26.03.2026 due to election arrangements, precluding mandamus at this stage. Issue framed as whether mandamus can direct police protection despite prior rejection. Court observed that challenge to rejection order dated 26.03.2026 remains open to petitioner.
