ORDER
The petitioner seeks a direction to respondents 1 and 2 to permit him to write the examinations in respect of arrears in six papers in the ensuing examinations commencing from 08.05.2026 for the five-year LL.B. course.
2.The petitioner joined the five-year LL.B. course in 2018. As per the Regulations of the University, the petitioner was required to complete the course in the year 2025. The Regulations provide that ordinarily no student shall be granted time beyond the extended period of two years. However, in exceptional circumstances, and based on the merits of each case, the University may permit a student one additional year for completion of the programme.
3.The petitioner submitted an application to the University explaining the reasons for his inability to complete the course within the extended period, namely, by the year 2025.
4.The learned counsel appearing for respondents 1 and 2 placed on record a communication dated 28.04.2026 issued by Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University, wherein the UGC N+2 Uniform Span period has been extended by one year as N+2+1. In the said communication, certain batches of students have been permitted, as a one-time measure, to write the May 2026 examinations. The communication further states that the petitioner is a redo candidate and that, if he submits the necessary documents relevant to the redo of the course, the University would permit him to write the examination during May 2026.
5.The said communication is taken on record.
6.In light of the above, this writ petition is disposed of, permitting the petitioner to submit an application to redo of the course. Upon submission of the application, the University shall permit the petitioner to write the supplementary examination during May 2026. No costs.
