Court directs peace committee meeting to ensure temple tax payment and festival participation rights.

ORDER

This writ petition has been filed seeking a direction to the second respondent to convene and conduct a peace committee meeting within a time frame to be fixed by this Court, so as to ensure that the petitioner and 24 families are permitted to pay the tax and participate in the 11th Mandakapadi of the Chithra Pournami Festival held on 30.04.2026, in connection with Arulmigu Sri Kaliamman Temple, based on the petitioner’s representation dated

17.04.2026.

The learned counsel appearing for the petitioner submitted that the sixth respondent is preventing the petitioner and 24 other families from paying the temple tax, refusing to accept the same, and also from participating in the 11th Mandakapadi of the aforesaid temple, and hence sought the indulgence of this Court.

3. Heard the learned counsel on either sides and carefully perused the materials placed before this Court. Considering the nature of the order proposed to be passed in this writ petition, notice to the sixth respondent is dispensed with.

4. Considering the limited scope of the relief sought, the second respondent is directed to convene a peace committee meeting, after issuing notice to the petitioner as well as the sixth respondent, and to facilitate the petitioner and 24 families in paying the temple tax. It is made clear that the sixth respondent shall not refuse to receive the same from the petitioner or any other person willing to pay the temple tax, and no one shall be prevented from participating in the temple festival.

5. With the above directions, this Writ Petition stands disposed of.
