IN THE HIGH COURT OF JUDICATURE AT MADRAS
G.K.Ilanthiraiyan, J
Meenakshi – Appellant
Versus
Supriya Sahu – Respondent
Contempt Petition

Advocates:
For the Appellants/Petitioners: S.Mani
For the Respondents: V.Veluchamy

A contempt petition becomes infructuous when the court's earlier directions are complied with by the respondents through subsequent administrative proceedings.

Headnote:The petitioner sought to initiate proceedings under S.11 of the Contempt of Courts Act, 1971, alleging willful disobedience of a court order directing the regularization of a deceased employee's service. The court examined whether the respondents had complied with the previous directions to pass orders on the merits of the case. The issue addressed was whether the respondents failed to comply with the court's order dated 23.01.2024. The court noted that the respondents had subsequently passed proceedings dated 31.10.2025 regarding the regularization request, satisfying the earlier mandate. The final result is that the contempt petition is closed.
