ORDER

This Court by order dated 17.12.2024, on the basis of the status report filed by the Joint Secretary of the Government Home Prohibition and Excise Department, dated 28.11.2024, recorded that CCTV system should be set up in the police stations in an unbiased manner, and a sum of Rs.27.25 has also been sanctioned for implementing the installation and upgradation of CCTV systems in two phases across the State. Recording the same, for further report, the case was adjourned.

2. The operative portion of the report dated 13.12.2024 filed by the Joint Secretary of the Home Department, is extracted as follows:

“5. It is submitted that in pursuance of the above direction of the Hon'ble Supreme Court, the Government in G.O. (D) No.404, Home (Police-12) Department, dated 11.04.2023 have issued orders sanctioning a sum of Rs.38.35 crore 'in principle' for Installation /upgradation of the CCTV system with storage capacity to store footage for a period of 1 year to 18 months in 1567 Police Stations in two phases. The details of two phases are as follows:-

Consequently, the Director General of Police/Head of Police Force, Chennai has been directed to follow the purchase procedure in force and to send necessary proposals to the Government for financial sanction after finalization of purchase procedure.

6. It is submitted that, the Director General of Police, Chennai in his letter dated 12.3.2024 has sent a proposal to the Government and requested to sanction an additional fund to the tune of Rs.7.2 crores and to accord financial sanction for implementation of the following CCTV projects for administrative sanction has already been accorded vide G.O.(Ms.) No.404, Home, (Police-12) Department, dated 11.04.2023.
