Writ Petition

Advocates:
For the Appellants/Petitioners: A. Rajasekaran
For the Respondents: M. Sakthi Kumar

The High Court may direct police to formally conclude an inquiry into a citizen's representation regarding business protection within a specified timeframe to ensure the orderly resolution of grievances.

Headnote:The present petition is filed under Article 226 of the Constitution of India seeking a writ of mandamus to direct the respondent police to provide security for the petitioner's business establishments. The petitioner alleged interference in business operations and sought police protection based on a pending representation. The court noted that the police inquiry into the matter is currently underway. The core issue is whether the court should compel police to provide protection while an inquiry regarding the petitioner's representation is pending. The court observed that it is appropriate to direct the police to conclude the investigation by following established procedural norms, specifically summoning involved parties to ensure natural justice. The writ petition is disposed of with directions to the police to conduct an inquiry into the representation within four weeks.
