The High Court may exercise supervisory jurisdiction under Article 227 of the Constitution to direct the expedited disposal of pending judicial proceedings in subordinate courts based on the court's calendar and anticipated timelines.
Headnote:The petitioner filed a civil revision petition under Art. 227 of the Constitution of India seeking an expedited trial in a pending matrimonial matter. The court records the report submitted by the lower court judge, who committed to disposing of the pending proceeding within a specific timeframe. The court finding indicates no further intervention is required other than setting a timeline for disposal. The main issue is whether the High Court should exercise its supervisory jurisdiction to direct the expedited disposal of a pending family court matter. The ratio decidendi is based on judicial economy and the necessity to ensure timely justice in matrimonial disputes, aligning with the report provided by the presiding officer of the court below. The civil revision petition is disposed of with a direction to the trial court to conclude the proceedings within the stipulated time frame.
