When a final report of 'Action Dropped' has been filed by the police in a criminal case, the petition to quash the FIR becomes infructuous and may be closed by the Court.

Headnote:The petitioner filed a petition under Section 482 of the Code of Criminal Procedure seeking to quash the First Information Report registered for offences under Sections 406 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code. The facts involved the request for the termination of criminal proceedings based on the police investigation. The core issue was whether the criminal proceeding should be quashed given the status of the investigation. The court observed that the investigation had already been completed and a final report indicating 'Action Dropped' had been filed by the respondent. Consequently, the court found there was no further relief to grant. The criminal original petition and the connected miscellaneous petition stand closed.
