This order will govern disposal of above mentioned appeals nos.752/2023, 753/2023, 754/2023 and 755/2023 as similar facts are involved. However, for the sake of convenience facts are taken from appeal no. 752/2023 unless otherwise stated.

This appeal by the opposite parties / appellants – Post Office is directed against the order dated 18.04.2023 passed by the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Chhindwara (for short ‘District Commission’) in complaint case no. 89/2022, whereby the District Commission has partly allowed the complaint and has directed the Post Office to pay Rs.9,00,000/- i.e. the amount deposited with the Post Office, to the complainant with interest @ 6% p.a. from 01.04.2021, till payment with costs of Rs.1000/-.

3. Brief facts of the case are that the complainant alongwith her daughter deposited Rs.9,00,000/- in the Senior Citizen Savings Scheme of the Post Office and had opened an account in her name. The proposal was obtained which was signed by the complainant and her daughter. The complainant alleged that she was not informed regarding the rules. The complainant also alleged that she had never requested for joining of her daughter’s name while opening the said account. The Post Office denied payment of Rs.9,00,000/- on the ground that the account was meant to be opened only by senior citizens. The complainant alleged that the Post Office opened said joint account in the name of the complainant and her daughter and the Post Office has thus been deficient in service in opening the said account.
