CRIMINAL PETITION No.3277 OF 2024
For the Appellants/Petitioners:
For the Respondents: M.Vivekanada Reddy
A criminal petition for quashment of proceedings becomes infructuous when the underlying offences are compounded and the case is closed following an amicable settlement between the parties.
Headnote:The petition was filed under S. 482 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, seeking quashment of proceedings in C.C.No.814 of 2023 for offences punishable under S. 498-A, 290, 323, 506 read with S. 34 of the Indian Penal Code and S. 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act. The court noted that the parties had amicably settled their disputes before the Lok-Adalat and the offences were compounded on 14.12.2024. The court addressed whether the petition for quashment remained viable given the subsequent developments. It was observed that since the Calendar Case itself had been closed and the offences were compounded, nothing further remained in the matter for deliberation. Accordingly, the Criminal Petition is dismissed as infructuous.
