The State of Telangana – Respondent
CRIMINAL PETITION No.16379 OF 2024
For the Appellants/Petitioners:
For the Respondents: M.Vivekanada Reddy
A criminal petition for quashment of proceedings is rendered infructuous when the underlying disputes are amicably settled and the offences are compounded before the competent court.
Headnote:The petitioner filed a petition under S. 528 of the Bharatiya Narik Suraksha Sanhitha, 2023, seeking quashment of proceedings in C.C.No.45 of 2024, which were registered under S. 506 read with S. 34 of the Indian Penal Code and S. 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act. The court noted that the parties had amicably settled their disputes before the Lok-Adalat and the offences were compounded on 12.12.2025. The court considered whether the petition for quashment remained viable given the settlement. It was observed that since the Calendar Case itself had been closed and the offences were compounded, nothing further remained for deliberation in the matter. Accordingly, the Criminal Petition is dismissed as infructuous.
