1. Ms. Asmi, learned counsel for the petitioners.

2. Mr. B.C. Joshi, learned A.G.A. for the State.

3. By the instant petition, the petitioners Vanshika D/o Naveen Kumar and Abhishek S/o Rajesh are praying for the following reliefs.

“(i) Issue a writ, order or direction in the nature of mandamus commanding and directing the respondent no.1 & 2 to provide adequate police protection to the petitioners as they are seriously apprehending harm to their life and liberty at the hands of respondent no.3 to 9 and other family members.”

It is contended that both the petitioners are major and they were in love with each other and now married on 30.01.2026 at Shiv Mandir, Kachahari Parisar, Roshnabad, Haridwar and their marriage is also registered in the office of Sub Registrar, Registration of Marriage on 12.02.2026. The marriage registration certificate is also enclosed as Annexure-3. Regarding date of birth the High School certificate of petitioner no.1 is enclosed and as per the certificate the date of birth of the petitioner no.1 is 03.03.2006 and so far as the petitioner no.2 is concerned, in support of her age the Aadhaar Card has been enclosed. According to the Aadhaar Card of the petitioner no. 2, the date of the birth of the petitioner no.2 is 17.05.2002.

5. On the other side, Mr. B.C. Joshi, the learned A.G.A. has not disputed the age of the petitioners and submits that both of them are major.

6. It is contended that the family members of the petitioner no.1 were against this marriage and therefore, there is a threat perception from them.

7. Taking into consideration that both the petitioners are major and their marriage is also registered, if there is a threat perception from the side of the private respondents then the State is under legal obligation to ensure safety and protection of the petitioners.

Accordingly, I dispose of the instant writ petition with the direction to the Senior Superintendent of Police, Haridwar to assess the threat perception if any to the petitioners from the private respondents and if he comes to the conclusion that there is any threat from the private respondents, he shall take appropriate steps. In addition to this the S.H.O. concerned shall call upon the private respondents and advise them not to take the law in their hands.

9. The petition is disposed of finally in the aforesaid terms.
