The above case has been SuoMotu registered by this Tribunal on the

basis of the newspaper report published in Dinamalar daily Chennai

Edition

dated,

01.07.2020

under

the

caption “uhkhGuk; Vup

KOikahf rPuikf;fg;gLkh?”(Will Ramapuram Lake be completely

restored?).

It was alleged in the newspaper report that Ramapuram Lake is under

the threat of encroachment and the lake was at the verge of being

extinct. Some attempt had been made to desilt the remaining

portion of the lake and banks were strengthened. There have been

regular and consistent requests and demands from the local public to

restore the tank completely and make the same into rainwater

harvesting centre.

As per the revenue records, the lake was having an extent of 17

Acres comprising in Survey No.239/2, Ramapuram, 55^th Ward,

Valasaravakkam Mandalam, Chennai Corporation and widely known
