Kerala High Court disposes of actor Dileep's petition after investigation is completed

The Kerala High Court on Tuesday disposed of a petition filed by Malayalam actor P. Gopalakrishnan, popularly known as Dileep, in connection with Crime No.297/2017 of Nedumbassery Police Station. Justice Jobin Sebastian closed the petition after noting that all investigations were completed and final reports had been filed.

Background of the case

Dileep, the 8th accused in the case, had approached the High Court with a petition under the Criminal Procedure Code. While the exact nature of the petition is not specified in the order, the court's decision indicates that the petitioner's grievance had been addressed by the completion of the investigation.

Court's Observations

When the matter was taken up, Dileep's counsel endorsed the submission of the Public Prosecutor that "after completion of the investigation , final reports have been filed in all the cases." The counsel further submitted that in view of this development, the purpose of filing the petition had been served.

Justice Sebastian recorded this submission and closed the Original Petition (Criminal).

What happens next

With the filing of final reports, the case is now ripe for trial. The closure of the petition does not affect the merits of the main case but only disposes of the specific relief sought by Dileep. The trial in the sessions court is expected to proceed.
