AAP's Sanjay Singh Allowed to Sign Forms for Rajya Sabha Renomination Despite Jail Term

Supreme Today News Desk

New Delhi: A city court on Friday allowed Aam Aadmi Party leader Sanjay Singh, who is currently lodged in judicial custody in a money laundering case connected with the alleged irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy, to sign forms and documents for his Rajya Sabha renomination. Singh, who is an AAP Rajya Sabha MP, was on Friday renominated by AAP for a second term in the Upper House of Parliament. The AAP leader, in his plea before the city court, sought a direction to the Tihar Jail Superintendent to allow him to sign the documents, saying that his present Rajya Sabha term is expiring on January 27 and the Returning Officer has issued a notice on January 2 for conduct of the election and nominations for the same are to be submitted by January 9. Singh was arrested in the money laundering case on October 4 by the Enforcement Directorate, which has alleged that the AAP leader played a key role in the formulation and implementation of the now-defunct Delhi Excise Policy to help private liquor companies get illegal benefits in lieu of monetary considerations. The special court hearing the alleged irregularities in the now-scrapped Delhi Excise Policy recently rejected Singh’s bail plea in the money laundering case. Manish Sisodia, Singh’s party colleague and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister, is also facing charges of corruption and money laundering in the alleged irregularities in the Delhi Excise Policy and he is also currently lodged in judicial custody. Earlier, on Thursday, the court allowed Singh to sign papers for his Rajya Sabha renomination.
