Prayagraj : Lawyer Khan Saulat Hanif Declared a History-Sheeter

Lucknow: Lawyer Khan Saulat Hanif , who handled legal issues of slain gangster Atiq Ahmad , has been declared a history-sheeter by the Dhoomanganj police in Prayagraj . His licence has also been cancelled by the UP Bar Council.

Currently, Hanif is languishing in Naini central jail. He was sentenced to life imprisonment for abduction and assault on lawyer Umesh Pal who was killed on February 24, 2023. Hanif has four cases registered against him, including a murder case in 1996, kidnapping for ransom cases in 2007, and a case of rioting in 2008.

Hanif was close to Atiq and was a member of his gang IS-227. Police officials said that after opening his history-sheet, they will keep a strict watch on his activities even if he is released from jail. Hanif is now a B-category history-sheeter, and his history-sheet number is 62-B. B-category history-sheets are closed only after the death of the history-sheeter.

Hanif 's Involvement in Umesh Pal 's Murder

The police investigation has revealed that Hanif had sent photographs of Umesh Pal to Atiq's son Asad and other assailants. He also alerted them when Umesh Pal left the court on February 24. Hanif was taken in police remand for questioning in the Umesh Pal murder case, and on his confession, police recovered an automatic pistol from his house.

After Atiq was sent to jail, Hanif used to keep records of his income from illegal activities at the behest of Atiq's wife Shaista Parveen.

Atiq's Lawyer Vijay Mishra Listed as History-Sheeter

Prayagraj : The Prayagraj police have also listed slain gangster Atiq Ahmad 's lawyer, Vijay Mishra , as a history-sheeter with the Cantonment police station on number 22 B. Vijay Mishra is the second Atiq lawyer to be listed as a history-sheeter.

The police have already listed Atiq's sons Mohammad Umar and Ali Ahmed as history-sheeters with the Khuldabad police station of Prayagraj district on '48B' and '57B' numbers, respectively.

The police said that nine cases were registered against Mishra by different police stations of the district. He was arrested on charges of seeking extortion from a Dariyabad-based timber merchant and sent to jail. He is currently lodged at the Naini Central jail.

The police had also made Mishra an accused in lawyer Umesh Pal 's murder case.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (City) Deepak Bhuker said that the police are tightening the noose around Atiq's gang members.
