The Madhya Pradesh High Court has acquitted a man accused of rape due to a lack of evidence of a false promise of marriage. The appellant, Hariom Shrivastava, was convicted by a trial court in Ujjain for raping a woman under the pretext of marriage. However, the High Court set aside the conviction, holding that the prosecution had failed to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the appellant had made a false promise of marriage to the prosecutrix.
