Delhi Excise Policy Case: Manish Sisodia 's Judicial Custody Extended Till July 6

In a significant development in the Delhi excise policy case, the Rouse Avenue Court in New Delhi has extended the judicial custody of Manish Sisodia , the former deputy chief minister of Delhi and a prominent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, until July 6.

The court's decision comes as Sisodia continues to face allegations of his involvement in the alleged irregularities and scam surrounding the formulation and implementation of the excise policy in the national capital.

According to the allegations made by both the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the Delhi excise policy was modified with irregularities, unwarranted favors were granted to license holders, and license fees were reduced or waived without proper approval from the competent authority.

The agencies have also alleged that the beneficiaries of these actions diverted "illegal" gains to the accused officials and falsified their financial records to avoid detection.

The CBI arrested Sisodia on February 26, 2023, for his alleged involvement in the "scam." Following his arrest, Sisodia stepped down from his position in the Delhi cabinet on February 28 of the previous year.

Sisodia , who is also in custody for a money laundering case connected to the alleged scam, has been facing a series of legal challenges in the past few months.

Recently, the Delhi High Court had denied bail to Sisodia in the Delhi excise policy case. The high court had, however, clarified that Sisodia could continue to meet his ailing wife every week on the same terms as set earlier by the trial court.

In March this year, the Supreme Court also dismissed the curative petitions filed by the senior AAP leader challenging the dismissal of review pleas against its 2023 verdict, denying him bail in connection with the alleged liquor policy scam.

The court's decision to extend Sisodia 's judicial custody until July 6 is a significant development in the ongoing legal battle surrounding the Delhi excise policy case. As the case continues to unfold, the legal community and the public at large will be closely watching the proceedings and their implications.

Judicial custody extension - Excise policy irregularities - Unwarranted favors - License fee reduction - Diversion of illegal gains - Financial record falsification - Corruption allegations - Ongoing legal battle - Bail denials - Curative petitions dismissed
