New Delhi – The Supreme Court of India on Tuesday adjourned the hearing on a batch of petitions, including one filed by activist Gulfisha Fatima, challenging a Delhi High Court order. The matter is now scheduled for further hearing on November 20, 2025.
A Division Bench comprising Justice Aravind Kumar and Justice N.V. Anjaria presided over the proceedings. The court heard preliminary submissions from Solicitor General Tushar Mehta and Additional Solicitor General Suryaprakash V. Raju, who appeared for the respondent, the State (NCT of Delhi).
After hearing the counsel for the State, the bench passed a brief order stating, "Re-list for further hearing on 20.11.2025."
The petitions, led by the Special Leave Petition (Crl.) No. 13988/2025 filed by Gulfisha Fatima, arise from the final judgment and order of the Delhi High Court dated September 2, 2025, in a criminal appeal. While the specifics of the High Court's order were not detailed in today's proceedings, the case is widely understood to be connected to the 2020 Delhi riots and the stringent charges framed against the accused.
The significance of the case was underscored by the presence of a formidable lineup of senior advocates representing the various petitioners. The legal teams included prominent names such as Kapil Sibal, Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi, C.U. Singh, Siddharth Luthra, Siddhartha Dave, Salman Khurshid, and Trideep Pais.
The State was represented by its top law officers, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta and ASG S.V. Raju, highlighting the high stakes involved in the matter.
The case will be taken up again on Thursday, November 20, 2025, when the petitioners' counsel are expected to present their detailed arguments before the apex court. The outcome of these proceedings is keenly awaited as it may have significant implications for the ongoing trials related to the Delhi riots.
