1. Short issue that arises for consideration in this writ petition is as to what is the discipline/subject in which a candidate must pass National Eligibility Test (NET), in order to be eligible for appointment to the post of Assistant Professor in Zoology, advertised by the U.P. Higher Education Service Commission, Allahabad (hereinafter referred to as the 'Commission') vide Advertisement No.46.

2. The facts necessary for proper appreciation of issue, therefore, is taken up, first. Large number of vacancies, in different subjects, were advertised by the Commission including Zoology. The advertisement specified qualifications required for the post in question, which is extracted hereinafter:-
